Oscars 2015 - our jewellery picks
Did you stay up late on Sunday to watch the Oscars? While we were delighted that swoony Brit Eddie Redmayne walked away with a statuette, we have to admit we were way more interested in what everyone was wearing than the actual awards. Come on, be honest, isn't that what everyone really tunes in for? Not to mention the, 'Oh, I'm so pleased for you' look everyone has to fake when they don't win...
While the red carpet style hits and misses got everyone talking, from Gwynnie's pink blancmange horror to Lady Gaga's washing up gloves (by Alaia no less, Marigolds, these were not), we were keeping an eye on what the great and good opted for jewellery wise.
As you'd expect from Hollywood, there were diamonds galore. Nothing says old school glamour like sparkling stones. As shown by red carpet queen Nicole Kidman, who opted for over 100 (yes, you read that right) carats worth of Harry Winston diamonds:
Taking the phrase, 'looking a million dollars' to a whole new level, Nicole's diamond stud earrings, rings and 82.14 carat bracelet were worth a reported £5 million!
Chloe Moretz wore her bling in a more playful, youthful style with this cool Forevermark ear cuff:
If you like the ethereal look of Chloe's cuff, check out our wing ear studs. Much more wearable for every day and loads more comfy (are we alone in thinking her ear looks a little bit pink and ouchy? Poor Chloe!)
Another diamond-ista was doyenne of fashion Anna Wintour. The Vogue Editor accessorised her neutral dress with a diamond flower necklace and long pendant. While her signature sunglasses were missing on the red carpet, you'll be relieved to hear they were firmly back on once she got inside the awards. Phew!
If you like the floral diamonds la Wintour is rocking, you're sure to love our Bloom Curve necklace. More suited to everyday wear than diamonds and just as stylish. Plus, you won't have a security guard following you around and have to give the necklace back at the end of your night out - where's the fun in that?
We were relieved to see that not everyone went the traditional route and opted for diamonds. Beautiful as they are, it's exciting to see some stars are leaving the bling at home and taking a more fashion forward approach. We particularly liked Cate Blanchett's turquoise collar necklace by Tiffany. It gave a real pop of colour to her John Galliano for Maison Margiela black dress:
The super stunning Margot Robbie also mastered the art of statement jewellery by teaming her simple black dress with a Van Cleef and Arpels necklace, known as the Zip Antique, which features a diamond and sapphire tassel. Worth a cool million pounds, apparently Margot was overheard saying, "The necklace is worth more than my life!"
Our final favourite was Laura Dern's unusual Bulgari pendant and matching ring which she wore with her fabulous Alberta Ferretti strapless dress. The necklace and ring are made from turquoise and we think they are really cool and unusual - what do you think?
If you're a fan of Laura's look, you're sure to love the Kiwi Pendant from our Flight of Fancy collection. Like the Bulgari necklace, it's a real statement piece that will draw the eye and is certain to be a talking point whenever you wear it:
So there you go, our picks of the loveliest red carpet jewels and how you can get the look with some of our contemporary jewellery. Now there's no excuse not to look red carpet ready every day!
