Birth of a Collection

A few years ago Ross and I went to see the V&A’s jewellery collection. If you haven’t been yet, you should go and check it out. It’s astonishing! Over 3,000 jewels tell the story of jewellery in Europe from ancient times to the present day. There were quite a few pieces I fell in love with. One of them was a pair of gorgeous earrings made by Carlo Giuliano in the 19th century, pictured below.

I felt all inspired and decided to design and make a simplified version of these earrings, featuring little hummingbirds. Just for fun, as a one-off piece. So I started carving the birds and Ross went on the hunt for gem stones. Below is the finished product - black Ruthenium and amethyst hummingbird earrings with purple silk tassels. Fit for any red carpet event.
Whilst they were much admired at various exhibitions, the majority of our clients were asking for something easier to wear, something for every day.

A couple of years later, when moving to our new workshop in Worthing, we came across some left over hummingbird castings and started playing around with them, adding bits of chain etc.

Et voilà, the Hummingbird collection was born. Here are my favourite pieces. To view the whole collection, just click here: Hummingbird Jewellery

Love,
Jana
