A delicate badger pendant, hand carved with ALL the intricate detail. No bigger than your thumbnail, this little badger necklace is full of lifelike features: a curious face with tiny rounded ears, teensy paws, and a dinky tail. Not forgetting those distinctive black stripy markings, created by carefully oxidising part of the silver. We have even tried to capture the texture of the badger’s fur, creating a pendant that’s oh so tactile AND seriously cute.
Badger jewellery is hard to find, so we decided to make a piece to remind the world just how cool they are. Did you know that badgers spend around 70% of their time underground and make their burrows cosy with fresh grass they replace each day? - Houseproud or what!? Some badger homes (or ‘setts’) are over 100 years old and have been passed down through generations of badgers. And despite their unjustified fierce reputation, badgers love to build family and community relationships.
All of which makes it even more heart-breaking to hear that over 175,000 badgers have been killed in England since the current badger cull began in 2013. The culls were introduced to control bovine Tuberculosis, but recent research by the Badger Trust showed that badgers are not spreading TB. Less than 8% of badgers found dead last year were infected with it, and culling badgers has made no difference to the number of TB cases in cattle. Yet the government continues to grant licenses for badger culls.
And that’s not all, 2021 also saw a 36% increase in badger crime, where badgers were harmed or killed in acts of cruelty. Meanwhile, in Asia, thousands of badgers are being violently killed to use their fur to make paint, makeup, and shaving brushes.
We need to stand up for these special creatures, so for every badger pendant sold, we will donate £20 to Badger Trust. This charity aims to put pressure on the government to end badger culls, prevent badger persecution and cruelty by educating the public and the police, and campaigning for tougher punishments for those who harm badgers. They also provide grants to promote the conservation, welfare, and protection of badgers, and much more.
Available in recycled 925 Sterling Silver or solid gold, don’t forget that all our pieces are sustainably made, and we only use 100% recycled precious metals. So, whether you opt for a silver or gold badger necklace, your lovely new jewellery won’t come at the expense of the earth’s resources.
There is even space for a tiny engraving on the badger's back. So if you'd like us to personalise your pendant with a couple of initials or a numbers, please choose "engraving" from the drop down.
